About American Nature Journal

An independent editorial publication about America's natural landscapes, parks and outdoor destinations.

American Nature Journal is an independent editorial publication focused on America's natural landscapes, parks and outdoor destinations. We publish accessible articles and visual stories for readers interested in nature, landscapes and outdoor exploration.

What we publish

  • Articles about mountain landscapes, forests, deserts, rivers and coastlines.
  • Profiles of national parks and other protected areas.
  • General introductions to wildlife and regional geography.
  • Nature photography, which may be illustrative rather than documentary.

How we work

  • All content is free to read. There is no sign-up, purchase or booking.
  • Articles are written by the editorial team in plain, factual language.
  • Details that change over time — access, fees, closures, permits — should be checked with the agency that manages the area.
